Power3 Medical Company Update
Power3 Medical Products, Inc. (Power3) has made substantial progress in the face of major challenges in difficult economic times. In September of 2008 the CEO resigned. Immediately the company engaged Bronco Technology, Inc., a biotechnology consulting firm with a proven track record, to provide services to aid in a turn around. This involved the placement of Ms. Helen R. Park, M.S., as Interim CEO. Due to the previous events, Ms. Park needed to streamline operations. She began by reducing the burn rate through cuts in staff and space, and implemented a new management strategy, beginning with securing new SEC counsel.
November of 2008, Ms. Park negotiated a letter of Intent with Transgenomic, Inc. of Omaha, Nebraska, followed by the signing of an exclusive licensing/collaborative agreement with Transgenomic in January of 2009 for the NuroPro® diagnostic tests that included Alzheimer’s diseases, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, and other neurological diseases. Power3’s proprietary proteomics platform and laboratory was re-opened and the Phase I clinical trials for Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease were resumed and subsequently completed. This process included the transfer of the Power3 proprietary proteomics platform to Transgenomic, Inc.
In January of 2009, Power3, held a successful Special Shareholders meeting to increase the number of authorized shares to provide a mechanism for Power3 to pay vendors, attorneys, auditors, IRS, debtors, and raise capital for the company. We have continued to be reporting throughout all of this troubled time.
In March of 2009 the company acquired the services of an experienced CFO, John Ginzler.
May of 2009 brought new scientific presentations, awards and additions to Power3. Dr. Markopoulou, PI for NuroPro®-PD Clinical Trials and member of Power3 Medical Products, Inc. Scientific Advisory Board, presented at the American Association of Neurology meeting in Seattle, WA. L. Goldknopf, Markopoulou, K, Chase, B., Appel, S., and Sabbagh, M. The poster drew interest from Neurologist and neuroscientists.
August of 2009, Phase II Clinical trials in conjunction with Transgenomic, Inc. were initiated for Alzheimer’s’ disease and Parkinson’s disease. New sites were investigated to speed up the trials.
September of 2009, Power3 published a paper in a peer reviewed scientific journal, Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications (BBRC) on Parkinson’s disease diagnostic test: “Abnormal Serum Concentrations of Proteins in Parkinson’s Disease Patients”: Ira L. In November of 2009, Dr. Goldknopf was the Keynote speaker and Session Chair of the session entitled “Biomarkers and Diagnostics in Personalized Medicine” at the BIT International Congress and Exposition of Molecular Diagnostics (ICEMD 2009) meeting in Beijing, China.
Presently, through our collaboration with Transgenomic, Inc. the company is preparing to commercialize the Alzheimer’s disease diagnostic test and the Parkinson’s disease diagnostic test in Transgenomic’s CLIA certified lab in the first quarter of 2010, from which Power3 will receive milestone payments and Royalties. Power3 in 2009 had revenues of over $200,000 which included the license fee and operations support from Transgenomic, Inc.
The management of Power3 Medical Products, Inc. wishes to thank the many shareholders, investors and vendors who stepped up to the plate to provide Power3 the means to continue its mission to provide the world with new and better tools for the understanding and diagnostics of diseases to fulfill critical unmet needs. The management has worked exceedingly hard to sustain our progress during this economic down turn. We will continue to serve to the best of our ability for the science, the future of the company, and the shareholders. We feel blessed to be in this industry.
